The StairMaster and I have a total love/hate relationship. It is so HARD, but kicks my butt in the best way possible! And, unlike running outside (the second hardest form of cardio, in my opinion), the StairMaster forces me to keep going when I get tired.
Options when tired on the StairMaster include:
- Stopping (read: falling off and bruising my ego forever -- the StairMasters at my gym are in EVERYONE'S view)
- Continuously and frantically pressing "next" on my iPod shuffle, hoping to find a song that will somehow help me survive the next 3.5 minutes. (Seriously, why did I think Pachelbel's Canon in D was a good idea on a workout playlist?! Pitbull is the way to go, people.)
- Risking a less graceful version of option #1 by actually letting go of one of the precious side rails long enough to actually press the button on the StairMaster to slow it down. This usually involves a short prayer, and the stress it generates alone raises my heart rate to dangerous levels. Seems counterproductive.
Seriously, kudos to those of you who can survive longer than 30 minutes on the StairMaster.

Quinn is moving up in the world! This morning, I swapped out her play pen for an actual chair. She recently discovered her ability to jump out of the play pen, rendering it useless, and since she's been doing so well with potty training anyway, I figure it's time to experiment with giving her a little freedom when I'm away from home (she does still have a crate, but eventually I'd like to let her have the living room to play in when I'm at work).
