About the Author
Hey there! Thanks for visiting Sports Bra Selfie!
My name is Megan. I'm a 24-year-old doctoral student in Trumpet Performance at the University of North Texas. I'm from western Kansas, but I have lived in Illinois for the past 6 years, and just recently moved to Denton, Texas. I'm an avid dog lover and have an almost 2-year-old husky named Quinn. She's adorable and hilarious, an awesome running partner, and most certainly will be featured here frequently.
Besides being a musician and dog lover, I also love to bake and travel. Unfortunately, my schedule and budget as a grad student don't allow for much travel outside of visiting family right now.
Like a lot of people, I gained weight in college. However, instead of the famed "Freshman 15," I woke up one day senior year and realized I'd gained no less than 70 pounds over the course of my undergraduate career. Can you say YIKES?! Now that I'm in grad school and the inevitable world of adulthood looms near, I'm taking control and slowly but surely shedding the weight. The idea behind "Sports Bra Selfie" is that I take a selfie every day after my workout in order to stay accountable and, eventually, see my long-term progress. I don't consider myself to be a fitness or nutrition junkie and I do not have any kind of fitness training certification, but I am making an attempt at living a balanced and health-minded life.
I was born with a genetic condition called distal arthrogryposis, which affects my hearing (I have a moderate loss and wear hearing aids), range of motion/flexibility, and is the reason for what I lovingly call my "cripple hands." However, I don't let my disabilities prevent me from enjoying life or becoming fit and am determined to prove that hard work pays off. I often adapt in order to do the things I love, and I hope my "mind over matter" approach will inspire others to work around whatever their limitations may be as well!
For reference, below on the left is a picture of me just before graduating high school, and on the right (second from the left) is me in November of 2013.
